It is also an entertaining, gritty and insightful memoir. Its release points to the need for a new "interfaith" category on bookstore shelves, for this book represents a movement that will only gain momentum in this century. It appeals to people who want to explore beyond the boundaries of their native belief systems and develop a sincere appreciation for other points of view without necessarily abandoning their own.

It is Ruth's premise that without this openness and generosity of spirit, humanity's future looks bleak, indeed. Sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant, always bold and courageous, Ruth's adventure, undertaken with energy and enthusiasm over most of her lifetime reminds me of Amelia Earhart's definition of courage as "the price that life exacts for granting peace.
One is left with no doubt that she has mastered the art as well as the science of Alchemy as applied to peacemaking.

It makes a significant contribution to the healing of the world which, in her spiritual tradition is called tikun olam. I read Minefields and Miracles in two days. It felt kind of like sitting with the author in her living room, looking at her photo albums and listening to her talk about her life and completely losing track of time because that's what happens when Ruth Broyde Sharon's charm and chutzpah catches your attention.
And she holds your attention - almost leaving you breathless at times - with her fascinating stories of experiences all over the world growing out of her exuberant passion for being, as ML King describes it,"tied together in a single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.
Unity Church Hosts Author of Minefields and Miracles: Why God and Allah Need to Talk
She has a delightfully refreshing trust in God that keeps her stories moving with anticipation of life's serendipities - such as a message on a billboard or finding a spider in the garden - that can set miracles into motion. Ruth describes her life's journey with humor and grace and loving care, conveying a sense of awe and gratitude.
One of the photos in the book is of Ruth addressing a standing-room only audience. The caption reads, "Who ever heard of an interfaith event selling out? Just finished reading this book - couldn't put it down until I consumed every last morsel of Ruth's story. Here is a woman who is proof that you don't need to relinquish your own faith to appreciate others and work for harmony between all faiths. As a Christian who is also an Interfaith Minister, I think this book should be included on the mandatory reading lists for every Interfaith seminary, as well as all other seminaries and training programs for all religious leaders.
Not only does it tell one person's remarkable story, but it highlights what is going on throughout the world to promote dialogue between faiths. Beginning as a young woman, and continuing throughout her life, Ruth has carried a torch for religious understanding. Her travels and encounters are well documented through her engaging storytelling style. I thoroughly enjoyed this book In , '94, '95, and , Ruth led multiple interfaith pilgrimages from Cairo to Sinai to Jerusalem.
In , in recognition of her contributions to bridge-building, Ruth was inducted into the Martin Luther King Advisory Board of Morehouse College and in she received a special commendation as an interfaith leader from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. Minefields and Miracles, her interfaith memoir-- considered a "primer" in interfaith engagement--won three literary awards and received more than 30 endorsements from prominent religious leaders, including H.
Ruth is also a regular correspondent for the ezine, The Interfaith Observer.
